Migrate to Odoo V18

Get the latest features

Upgrade to the latest version

Odoo is always evolving, and releases a new update every year. Every two to three years, you’re expected to upgrade. That's because Odoo only supports their latest three versions. The latest version being V18, means that only 18, 17 and 16 are supported right now. Technically, you can still work on an older version - no one's going to stop you. But unsupported software becomes a nice target for hackers, certain APIs might stop working and your Odoo environment can start malfunctioning, without any way to fix it.

We believe in a phased approach

In order to succesfully migrate you to the latest version, we work with a true and tested phased approach. One that balances speed, stability, and scalability. We make sure to do every step thoroughly, so we don't bump into issues later and everything is well-documented.

Our phased approach

1. Pre-migration

We start by gathering access to all systems and mapping out your current custom modules. This allows us to provide a clear scope, timeline, and budget, before any development begins.

2. Staging & testing

We migrate your custom and third-party modules into a staging environment, using Odoo’s official migration tools. Our team tests both standard and custom flows to ensure everything works as expected.

3. Internal testing

You test the staging version yourself, following your day-to-day workflows. Feedback is tracked in a shared sheet or directly in Odoo for quick follow-up.

4. Dry run

We simulate the final go-live with a full test run of the migration. It’s our last quality check to catch any issues before pushing live.

5. Production migration

Together, we define a cutover plan and schedule your go-live. The migration is completed during a planned window with minimal disruption.

6. Post-migration

After go-live, we provide daily check-ins and documentation to support your team. Ongoing follow-up ensures everything runs smoothly and you stay confident in your setup.

FAQ

I have no custom code, can I just migrate with a push of the button?

If you have no custom code, chances are you might be able to quickly migrate to a newer version, even without needing external development help. If none of the core apps and workflows have significantly changed, migrating will probably be a whole lot easier.

Should my original setup have been handled by dear digital?

Nope! We can help you migrating, even when you weren't a customer at dear digital before. We will have to check what's been built and documented before, following a slightly different and longer process - just to make sure we get it right.

Why should I migrate every few years?

Sticking with an outdated version of Odoo might feel comfortable, but it comes with real risks. Older versions aren’t supported anymore. That means: no updates, no bug fixes, no improvements. And if something breaks, you’re on your own. Cherry on top: you're more vulnerable to hackers and malware. So, while you can skip migrating, doesn't mean you should.

How much will my migration to a new version cost?

That depends on your needs and the changes between the two versions, but as a rule of thumb you should account for 15% of the original implementation budget.
